Hanbok in Seoul: rent your own or join a palace walk?

Plan a palace visit in hanbok, with time to dress and return it. Compare rental extras, guided-walk timing and Gyeongbokgung admission.

Updated Oct 2, 2026

Choose rental-only if you want to linger over photographs and follow your own palace route. Choose a guided walk if you would enjoy stories and a planned route as well as the outfit. The linked four-hour tour uses the hanbok for only part of the day, returning it before Bukchon. That difference matters more than comparing the two starting prices.

Your own photo walk

Rental-only gives you control over the route within the booked rental period.

Stories along the way

The linked guided walk is in English and combines palace and neighbourhood visits.

Give getting dressed its own time

Book the rental before the part of the day you want for photographs. Leave room to choose colours, get dressed and walk to the palace, then keep a return buffer instead of using every minute inside the grounds. With friends, agree on one meeting point so nobody spends the afternoon looking for the rest of the group.

The outfit and the finishing touches

The linked rental lists a locker and several accessories, while hairstyling, hats, shoes and makeup are separate. Decide which extras you actually want before comparing the total. If you have a particular colour, style or size in mind, ask the shop about that selection rather than assuming every gallery outfit belongs to the base price.

Choose the palace date before the outfit

Gyeongbokgung normally closes on Tuesdays, with holiday exceptions. Qualifying hanbok can give free ordinary admission under the palace's clothing rules; special events may have separate tickets. The official guidance accepts traditional and modern hanbok with the required upper and lower garments. Check your date, then build the rental around the time you can actually enter.

A few things worth knowing

Do I wear the hanbok for the whole guided tour?

On the linked tour, hanbok time is about 1.5–2 hours within a four-hour itinerary. It is returned before the walk to Bukchon.

Does rental include a photographer?

A photographer is not listed in the linked rental. Arrange a separate photo session if professional portraits are the main purpose.
