GYEONGJU · GAMEUNSA TEMPLE SITE FLOWER GARDEN
A new flower garden adds an easy stop beside Gyeongju’s Gameunsa Temple Site
Gyeongju has turned 4,700 square metres beside Gameunsa Temple Site into a cosmos garden with a short walking and rest route.

A previously unused plot in front of Gameunsa Temple Site has been remade as a 4,700-square-metre flower garden. Gyeongju City says cosmos, shrubs, a coconut-mat walking path and a rest area now create a short scenic pause beside the historic site. It is best treated as an outdoor add-on to an east-coast Gyeongju route, not as a replacement for the city’s larger heritage circuit.
What has changed
The municipal project converted a neglected roadside plot at Yongdang-ri into a planted public space linked to Gameunsa Temple Site. The city’s announcement identifies cosmos as the main seasonal flower and notes shrubs, a walking path and a place to rest; it does not promise a fixed peak-bloom window.
How to fit it into a trip
Gameunsa lies outside central Gyeongju, so the garden makes most sense when your route already includes the city’s eastern historic landscape or coast. Allow flexibility for road travel and daylight, and keep a central-city alternative in case rain or the flowers’ condition makes a long detour less worthwhile.
What to check before leaving
This is an outdoor landscape project rather than a ticketed festival. The city notice does not state staffed hours, foreign-language interpretation, parking capacity or guaranteed bloom conditions, so confirm current access locally and do not assume an associated tour includes this stop unless its itinerary names Gameunsa.
Before you go
- Check the latest weather and flower condition before making the east-Gyeongju detour.
- Confirm local transport or parking because the site is outside central Gyeongju.
- Wear shoes suitable for an outdoor path and allow for uneven or damp ground.
- Treat any linked tour below as a separate reservation, not entry to the garden.
