Gyeongju City plans to add 50 restaurants to its Welcome Kids programme, taking the network from 138 to 188 businesses. The designation is designed to make family meals easier through items such as children’s tableware and high chairs, while five participating businesses are also due support for play-space installation. Travellers should still check the exact restaurant and facilities before walking in.

What the designation means

The city describes Welcome Kids venues as restaurants equipped with services or facilities for adults travelling with children, including child-sized tableware, chairs and menu options. Because equipment can vary by business, the label is a useful shortlist rather than a guarantee that every location offers the same setup.

Why it helps family itineraries

A larger network gives families more flexibility around Gyeongju’s spread-out sights, where meal timing can otherwise dictate the day. Choose a restaurant near the next confirmed stop, then verify opening hours, break times, seating and whether the child menu suits dietary needs before setting out.

Limits to check in advance

The October 14 announcement describes the expansion plan and municipal support, but it does not provide an English booking service or promise that every newly selected venue is already operating with all equipment. Contact the restaurant directly, and distinguish ordinary meal purchases from any separately booked tour or cooking activity.

Before you go

  • Confirm that the chosen restaurant is currently designated and open on your visit date.
  • Ask which child seats, tableware, menus or play facilities are actually available.
  • Check allergens and dietary needs directly with the restaurant before ordering.
  • Keep tour and activity bookings separate from the cost of your family meal.

The expanded restaurant network may simplify meal planning around a Gyeongju sightseeing day. The linked reviewed products are separate paid experiences: one combines a market visit with cooking, while the other is a guided heritage tour with lunch included under its own booking conditions.
