Seoul’s Central Squares Get a Walkable Autumn Garden Route
New seasonal plantings connect Seoul Plaza, Gwanghwamun, Cheonggye Plaza and Songhyeon for an easy, flexible autumn walk.

Seoul’s civic center has been refreshed with autumn flowers and foliage, creating a low-commitment route between several free public spaces. The practical choice is not to rush every site: pick a compact section around City Hall and Gwanghwamun, then add Songhyeon if daylight and weather allow.
Choose a compact walking section
The city planted 61 kinds of flowers and trees, including seven chrysanthemum varieties. Seoul Plaza combines red-berried shrubs, grasses and autumn perennials, while station entrances and green spaces near Gwanghwamun, Cheonggye Plaza and Seoul Library add smaller displays.
Songhyeon Green Plaza has zinnias and cosmos as well as an outdoor sculpture festival scheduled through November 30. It is the strongest add-on for travelers who want both seasonal planting and public art, but it is separate from the other civic-square displays.
Conditions matter more than reservations
These are outdoor public spaces rather than a timed garden event. Flower condition can change with rain, cold snaps and maintenance, and the official announcement does not give a final viewing date for every planting.
Daylight offers the clearest view of the flowers, while an evening walk emphasizes the surrounding cityscape. Use public transport because the locations sit near busy central roads and parking is not part of the attraction.
Keep paid activities separate
No tour is needed to follow this route. If you add a cruise or another bookable Seoul activity, allow travel time to the separate meeting point and check its current operating status independently.
Before you go
- Check the weather and daylight before setting out.
- Choose City Hall–Gwanghwamun or Songhyeon rather than rushing every stop.
- Use public transport around the central squares.
- Treat linked activities as separate bookings, not garden admission.
