Gwanghui-dong’s Central Asian restaurant district is introducing its new “Gwanghui Road” identity with a one-day street festival on October 24. For visitors, the useful choice is whether to browse independently for food or try for one of the very limited guided places.

What the festival adds to the neighbourhood

The programme uses the existing Central Asian streets near Dongdaemun Design Plaza rather than creating a closed food fair. Restaurants representing Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Russia, Georgia and Korea remain the main attraction, while a “Gwanghui Story” food map explains shared ingredients and food traditions. Cultural booths and first-come gifts are supporting features, so travellers should plan around the neighbourhood’s restaurants instead of expecting every tasting to be included.

Choose between self-guided food and the docent walk

Independent visitors can arrive at any point during the 11:00–21:00 window and follow the distributed map. The organised docent tour is different: Seoul’s notice says it runs once, for roughly ten participants, and requires advance application by telephone. The notice does not promise English interpretation, so international visitors should not assume multilingual support when calling or joining.

Build a realistic DDP-area stop

The festival streets are about a three-minute walk from DDP, making this an easy meal-and-walk addition to an exhibition day. Leave room for queues, verify outdoor conditions on the day, and budget separately for restaurant meals and market purchases. The related KoreaSeek activities below are optional bookings elsewhere in central Seoul, not admission to the festival.

Before you go

  • Go on Saturday, October 24 between 11:00 and 21:00; the festival is spread across streets rather than one indoor venue.
  • Use Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station and expect short street closures or crowded pavements around Eulji-ro 42-gil and 44-gil.
  • Food and shop purchases are separate from festival access; carry a payment method accepted by small businesses.
  • The docent walk is limited to about 10 people and requires advance phone registration at 02-2174-4395; English service is not stated.
  • Check the city notice before departure in case the outdoor schedule changes.
